“Aliens! They’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming.” These were the frantic and unhinged words of a handcuffed, partially nude, and disheveled 24-year-old, Maecee Marie Lathers, as she was being placed in an ambulance after causing a fatal three-car car crash in Downtown Miami.
The Deadly Car Accident
The car crash occurred in the early morning of August 10, 2024. Miami police responded to the collision at 6:45 am, and by 7:00 am, a drug-crazed Lathers was placed under arrest.
According to police, Lathers, an Instagram model from New York, had “her foot on the gas at 100%” and was speeding at approximately 80 mph. She was racing down North Miami Avenue in her white Mercedes-Benz when she ran a red light at Eighth Street, slammed into a Range Rover, and, in turn, caused it to crash into a Suzuki.
While the driver of the Range Rover suffered only minor injuries, the driver of the Suzuki and its passengers were less fortunate. Abraham Ismael, the driver of the Suzuki and Jesus Rubio, his friend and passenger were killed. Ismael died at the hospital. Rubio was pronounced dead at the scene. Juanita Hernandez, Ismael’s fiancé, also in the Suzuki, suffered facial and arm cuts.
Abraham Ismael leaves behind a teenage son. All three occupants of the Suzuki were on their way to work when this horrific car accident occurred.
During Ms. Lather’s court appearance, it was disclosed that there is video surveillance of her exiting her vehicle walking Northbound, away from the tragic scene, failing to render any aid or seek assistance for anyone injured as a result of her reckless actions. This shows her wanton and willful disregard for human life. Fortunately, nearby bystanders detained her and brought her back to the scene of the accident and held her there until the police arrived.
Later, the police body camera captured Lathers, handcuffed, in a fetal position on the asphalt, screaming and declaring that she is from the future and has a crystal ball. When asked if she was under the influence of something, she responded, “Tusi.”
Tusi, also known as pink cocaine, is a party drug that contains a mixture of different psychoactive substances. It is typically circulated in pink powder in the Miami club scene. Tusi is reported to be a concoction of ketamine, MDMA, cocaine, methamphetamine, caffeine, opioids, and other new psychoactive substances (NPS).
Criminal Charges She faces from the car accident
Investigators say that Lathers was driving with a suspended license. She is currently facing a bevy of criminal charges:
- 2 counts of DUI manslaughter
- One count of DUI causing bodily injury to another
- One count of reckless driving causing serious injury
- Three counts of driving without a driver’s license resulting in injury or death
- Two counts of vehicular homicide caused by failure to stop
- One count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death
Investigators noted that alcohol was not found in her system. However, toxicology reports showed that she tested positive for ketamine and MDMA, two critical ingredients in Tusi.
Civil Liabilities from the car accident
Clearly, Lathers, whose bond was revoked, is in a very precarious position. She is in a world of trouble as she faces serious criminal charges in Florida. Additionally, irrespective of the outcome of her criminal case, her colossal screw-up has exposed her to immense civil liability in the future, where she is from.
Lather’s may be liable for the property damages caused by the car accident, along with the injuries caused to the auto accident victims, the Range Rover driver, and Juanita Hernandez, the fiancé of Abraham Ismael and passenger of the Suzuki. More importantly, Lather’s is exposed to civil liability in connection with the wrongful deaths of the victims of the died as a result of the injuries sustained from the motor vehicle accident.

The Warning Sign Said Keep Out. The Insurance Company Said She Had No Case. We Got Her $575,000.
A Brooklyn factory worker lost her fingers in an industrial machine. The insurance company pointed to a warning sign on the machine and denied her claim — saying it absolved all liability. They had a point. But under New York law, a warning sign is not a get-out-of-jail-free card. Attorney Koenig Pierre fought back and won her $575,000. Here is what every immigrant worker in Brooklyn needs to know about their rights.
Slipped and Fell at a Flatbush Store or Bodega? Here’s Why You Probably Have a Case
Slipped and fell at a Flatbush bodega, Caribbean grocery store, or supermarket on Utica Avenue, Nostrand Avenue, or Church Avenue? You probably have a case — and you deserve to know why. Brooklyn personal injury attorney Koenig Pierre breaks down New York premises liability law in plain English: what store owners are legally required to do, what evidence you need to gather before it disappears, how commercial liability insurance works against you, and who is responsible when you fall outside on ice or snow. Whether the store, the landlord, or the City of New York is at fault, I will find every dollar available to you. No upfront fees. No risk. Just results.
Hit by a Car on Ocean Avenue? A Flatbush Accident Lawyer Who Grew Up on This Block Explains What You Need to Know.
My mother lives on Ocean Avenue and Glenwood Road. She was hit by an Uber on this block. As a Brooklyn car accident lawyer who grew up in this neighborhood, I know what makes this corridor dangerous — the cut-through drivers, the B41 bus blind spots, the Uber insurance traps — and I know what most residents of Flatbush, Little Caribbean, and Little Haiti don’t know about their legal rights. This is the guide I wish she had.
